Detectives in the North, investigating the attack on an Alliance Office in Carrickfergus on Wednesday night have arrested a 33-year-old man.
He is being questioned on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and burglary.
More than 1,000 rioters burned down the office of Alliance MLA Stewart Dickson and four police officers were injured.
The arrest comes as further protests are due to take place in Belfast over the coming days in opposition to new restrictions on flying the Union flag at City Hall.
Meanwhile, three teenage boys - two aged 13, and the other 14 -have been charged with public order offences after violent protests in the city yesterday.
They will appear before Belfast Youth Court tomorrow.
