A man has been arrested in south Dublin after four shotguns and a revolver were seized.
The discovery was made following a search of a car in Tallaght on St Patrick's Day.
At around 9.50pm while on routine mobile patrol, Gardaí noticed a vehicle driving at speed in the Tallaght area.
After a short pursuit, the car was stopped at Ardmore Gardens.
The driver stayed in the vehicle while people in the front and rear made their escape on foot.
The car was subsequently searched and four shotguns - three of which were previously reported stolen - and a revolver with ammunition were seized.
The driver of the vehicle, a man aged in his 40s, was arrested and is currently detained at Tallaght Garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against The State Act.
Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
