A man has been arrested after reports that shots were fired in Dublin.

The man (47) was detained after what gardaí describe as a violent struggle, when the man was approached by two members of a community policing unit at Ballyfermot Parade at around 11pm last night.

Gardaí recovered a firearm, a quantity of ammunition and a knife.

They had responded to reports of shots being fired in the Kylemore Park area.

The man is being detained at Ballyfermot garda station.
