A man aged in his 20s has been arrested over a two vehicle collision in Co Louth, in which three people died.
At around 2.15am on Saturday, Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene of the crash on the N1 at Carrickarnan, Ravensdale north of Dundalk.
People in one of the cars - a man in his 50s and a woman in her 80s - were pronounced dead at the scene.
A man in his 20s, travelling in the second car, was taken by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
A second man in his 20s, also in this car, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Post-mortem examinations are taking place on Sunday.
The arrested man is being held at Dundalk Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Gardaí say investigations are continuing.
