A man who appeared before a Dublin court wearing only his underwear has been granted bail. 30-year-old Thomas O’Driscoll of Richmond Avenue in Fairview was carried into court earlier by 4 prison officers with one holding each limb.

Shortly before the hearing Judge Mary-Ellen Ring warned those in court not connected with the case that they may 'want to spare their blushes' and leave.

Mr. O'Driscoll is facing charges at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court over theft of a €399 television from Tesco in Clarehall on May 7th 2012 and for possession of wire cutters on the same occasion.

The accused will appear again later this month. He been ordered to sign on every day at Clontarf garda station.

Court told man has 'certain difficulties'

The court heard the accused was unhappy about not being allowed to see a doctor while in prison.

Defence counsel Eoghan Cole BL said his client has 'certain difficulties' and that he believes his medical needs are not being met in prison. Mr. Cole said he had not been given proper instructions by his client but that he believes Mr. O’Driscoll’s complaints are “not entirely without foundation.

Judge Ring agreed to readmit him to bail on condition he signs on once a day at Clontarf Garda Station and stays out of trouble.

She added that her decision “has nothing to do with his current state.
