One Florida hockey team had a very unusual themed event this weekend.

The spectators attending a Florida Panthers game on Saturday were handed cardboard cut-outs of actor Kevin Spacey's face as part of a 'Spacey in Space' night.

Some fans also donned 'Spacey in Space' hoodies - a blue top featuring an image of the House of Cards star's face floating through space. 

At one point during the game, the camera turned towards one fan, who was wearing a mask and wearing the unusual hoodie.

Yes, you can probably guess who was behind the mask:

As Mashable explains, 'Spacey in Space' is a bit of a running gag for the team. It originated with a hoodie that was handed to the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of any winning game.

Given the hoodie's popularity, it was then put on sale exclusively at the team shop - with the proceeds going towards charities the Florida Panthers Foundation and the Kevin Spacey Foundation.

As for where 'Spacey in Space' originated? Players have been secretive about the joke's meaning, but of course one man knows for sure:
