Gardaí were rushed to O’Connell Street last night following reports of a man carrying a suspected firearm.
Gardaí say a man was arrested and remains in custody at a Garda station in the North city centre.
A spokesman said it is believed the man was intoxicated.
It is understood that preliminary investigations suggest the suspected firearm was a toy gun.
“Gardaí attended the scene of a public order incident on O’Connell Street on January 29th 2024,” said the spokesman.
“An intoxicated male in possession of what appeared to be a suspected firearm was arrested at the scene and he is currently detained at a Garda station in the North city centre.”
It is understood the incident occurred during a Luas power failure in the area.
