A man has appeared in court charged after two gardaí were injured in an alleged assault in Dublin last weekend.
One garda remains in hospital after the incident on Berkeley Street on Sunday morning and it is understood he suffered facial injuries, including damage to his eye socket.
A second garda suffered minor injuries; however, he did not need medical attention at the time.
The Garda Representative Association has described the alleged attack as 'ferocious' and 'unprovoked'.
A man in his mid-20s was arrested and has since been charged with offences contrary to the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.
He appeared before the courts yesterday morning.
Garda welfare services have put in place for both gardaí and their colleagues after the incident.
