A man in his 40s has been charged and a woman has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run in Blanchardstown.

The man in his 40s is scheduled to appear before the Courts tomorrow morning.

A woman has also been arrested in connection to the incident, and is currently being held at a Garda station in Dublin.

The emergency services were called to the crash, involving a car and four pedestrians, at about 5.45pm on St Stephen's Day.

Husband and wife Anthony Hogg (40) and Georgina Hogg-Moore (39) both died due to injuries sustained in the crash.

Since Christmas Eve alone, four pedestrians have lost their lives, bringing the number of people killed on the roads to five over the last five days.

177 people have died on Irish roads this year, as motorists and pedestrians are both being warned to be extra careful in the run up to New Year.
