A man in his late 20s has been charged in connection with an aggravated burglary in Cork.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning at a house in the Mahon area.
The man is alleged to have broken into the house at around 2.30am.
Gardaí say that when the man was found by the owner of the house, he then proceeded to assault her using a metal travel mug.
The man is then alleged to have fled the scene when disturbed by another person in the house.
The woman, aged in her 50s, received injuries to her head.
No property was taken from the house.
A man was later arrested and taken to Bridewell Garda Station where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
