A man has been charged over the death of a woman on a farm in Co Galway last year.

The man is scheduled to appear at a special sitting of the District Court in Loughrea later on Thursday.

Gardaí had been investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the death of the woman, aged in her 70s, following an incident on a farm near Boula on the outskirts of Portumna last April.

She died when she was hit by an agricultural vehicle.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene.

However the woman was pronounced a dead short time later.
