A man in his 40s will appear before the court today in connection with the death of a woman in Cork.
He will appear before a special sitting of the Cork District Court at 10.30am today, July 16th.
The man was arrested after the body of a woman in her 30s was discovered at a home in Wilton, Co Cork, on Friday night.
A postmortem of the body was completed yesterday evening, but results aren't being released for operational reasons.
Former Lord Mayor of Cork Councillor Deirdre Forde said the death is “a tragedy for everybody concerned”.
“If anybody has any information, they should certainly no matter how small it is, or whatever they think might be useful, do talk to Gardaí,” she said.
Cork city Councillor Shane O'Callaghan said the incident is “very unusual for the Wilton area”.
“The reaction locally is one of absolute shock and disbelief,” he said. “Cardinal Court Wilton where the incident took place is a quiet residential community.
“The victim was a young mother in her 30s originally from India, she's the mother of a young son, and our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this horrific time.”
