A Dublin man has appeared in court in connection with yesterday's seizure of heroin in Newcastle with an estimated street value of 900 thousand euro.

Keith Byrne (33) with an address at Greenfort Crescent, Clondalkin was arrested as part of what gardaí describe as 'intelligence-led operations' targeting drug gangs in the Clondalkin and Ballyfermot area.

A second man, aged 46 was also arrested but has been released without charge.

Gardaí seized 6 kilos of heroin with an estimated street value of €900,000 at Castlebaggot, Aylmer Road, in Newcastle yesterday afternoon.

Det Garda Eoin Roche told Dublin District Court that Keith Byrne was charged at Clondalkin Garda station last night with possession of diamorphine for sale or supply.

He made no reply after caution.

There were no garda objections to bail or legal aid, both of which were granted by Judge Anthony Halpin who has put the case back until June 19th for DPP directions.
