A man has been charged with assault and criminal damage after a milkshake was thrown over Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage in Newcastle.
It happened after Mr Farage gave a speech in the city yesterday as part of the party’s campaign tour ahead of this week’s European Parliament elections.
A man was dragged away by police immediately after the incident.
This morning, Northumbria Police confirmed that a man had been charged with “common assault and criminal damage” in relation to the incident.
32-year-old Paul Crowther is due to appear before magistrates in North Tyneside on Thursday June 18th.
Afterwards, Mr Farage could be heard asking security staff: "How did you not stop that?"
Sadly some remainers have become radicalised, to the extent that normal campaigning is becoming impossible.
For a civilised democracy to work you need the losers consent, politicians not accepting the referendum result have led us to this.— Nigel Farage (@Nigel_Farage) May 20, 2019
After the incident he tweeted: “Sadly some remainers have become radicalised, to the extent that normal campaigning is becoming impossible.”
“For a civilised democracy to work you need the loser’s consent; politicians not accepting the referendum result have led us to this.”
Mr Farage is the latest in a string of UK politicians to be doused in a dairy drink – along with figures including UIP’s Carl Benjamin and far-right candidate Tommy Robinson.
