A man has appeared in court charged over the death of a student in Limerick late last year.
Joe Drennan was hit by a car at a bus stop on the Dublin Road in Castletroy on October 13th last year.
The 21-year-old Laois native was a University of Limerick journalism student and editor of the Limerick Voice newspaper.
This morning, Gardaí arrested and charged 20-year-old Kieran Fogarty of Hyde Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston in Limerick.
Appearing before Limerick District Court, he was charged with one count of dangerous driving causing death, one count of driving without insurance and one count of driving without a driver’s license.
Judge Carole Anne Coolican refused an application from the defence to have a bail hearing heard in camera.
She told the court that, “Justice needs to be administered in public”.
Mr Fogarty was remanded in custody pending a bail hearing later today.
