A man in his mid-30s has been charged with murdering a child in Dublin.
He has also been charged with producing a knife in the course of a dispute.
The accused was presented with both charges shortly after 1.45pm this afternoon.
He made no reply to the murder charge.
However, when charged with producing a knife in the course of a dispute, he responded and said: "This is a charge? Or this is a final decision?"
Judge John Campbell made it clear that neither the victim nor the accused were to be identified in media reports, due to reporting restrictions under the Children's Act.
He said it was his view that naming the accused could give way to identifying the victim.
The judge concluded by saying "the victim must be protected".
The accused man will now be remanded in custody until Thursday, when he will appear before Cloverhill District Court via videolink.
