A man has been charged with the murder of a woman in Wilton, Co Cork.
Regin Parithapara Rajan, aged 41, appeared before the Cork District Court this morning following the death of 38-year-old Deepa Dinamani.
He is due to appear before the court again on July 20th via video link and remains in custody in Cork Prison.
Defence solicitor Eddie Burke told Judge Olann Kelleher that his client has no means or income and applied for legal aid.
He also said Mr Rajan has mental health difficulties and requested he receive any necessary medical care while in custody.
Mr Rajan was arrested on Friday, July 14th, following the discovery of Ms Dinamani’s body in a home in Cardinal Court in Cork City.
A postmortem of the body was completed yesterday evening, but results aren't being released for operational reasons.
Cork City Councillor Shane O'Callaghan said the incident is “very unusual for the Wilton area”.
“The reaction locally is one of absolute shock and disbelief,” he said. “Cardinal Court Wilton where the incident took place is a quiet residential community.
“The victim was a young mother in her 30s originally from India, she's the mother of a young son, and our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this horrific time.”
