Kapil Garg is originally from India but had been renting a room in a house at Whitefriar Place in Dublin 8 at the time of the attacks on July 2nd last year.

The majority jury verdicts came after 4.5 hours of deliberations.

‘Cosmopolitan man of the world’

During the trial Mr. Garg was described as a ‘well-educated, well-traveled, cosmopolitan man of the world’ who had earned a masters degree in computing in California.

The court heard he met the 2 friends at 3am outside a nightclub and went back to his house in Dublin on the understanding that he would give them ecstasy.

It is believed he actually gave them an anti-depressant and then raped the women when they fell asleep.

Consensual claims

One of the women said she woke up during the ordeal, roused her friend and they made their escape.

34-year-old Garg claimed the sex was consensual but he is now in custody awaiting sentence this December.
