A man has died after being pulled from the sea in Dublin Bay this afternoon.

The alarm was raised by the man's friend after he failed to return from a swim off Dalkey island.

Lifeboats from Dun Laoghaire and the Coastguard helicopter were deployed to the scene at about 11 o'clock this morning.

The man was taken to Tallaght Hospital in a critical condition where it's believed he died shortly afterwards.
