A man is in a critical condition following an assault in Kilkenny in the early hours of this morning.
Gardaí have launched an investigation into the attack at a house on the Castlecomer Road at 4 am.
The 46-year-old man was taken to St Luke's Hospital, with gardaí saying his condition is believed to be critical.

A man in his 30s was arrested by investigating gardaí and is currently detained at Kilkenny Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Gas House Lane in the town remains closed off while a technical examination of the scene is carried out.
