A man has died following an alleged assault in County Kerry.
It happened in the village of Knockanure shortly after midnight last night.
Gardaí arrived at the scene in the village of Knockanure at 12.30am last night.
A man in his 40s was found with fatal injuries and pronounced dead at the scene.
His body was taken to the mortuary for a post-mortem at University Hospital Kerry and the local coroner and State pathologist have both been informed.
The scene is currently closed to allow for a Garda technical exam.
Arrest
A man in his 30s has been arrested in connection with the incident and is being held at a Garda station in Kerry.
A senior investigating officer has been appointed and an incident room has been established at Listowel Garda Station.
Gardaí say they are investigating “all of the circumstances” around the man’s death and are asking for anyone with information to come forward.
They are also asking for anyone who was travelling through Knockanure between 12am and 1am last night to contact them, particularly those with dash cam footage.
