A man has died after a 40-foot wall collapsed at a business in Longford Town this afternoon.
The Health and Safety Authority has now launched a major investigation into the incident which happened at the Connacht Gold DIY and Garden Centre on the Athlone Road in Longford.
1 other man is in a critical condition in Mullingar Hospital while 3 other men also injured at the workplace accident are being treated in Mullingar and Tullamore Hospitals.
Up to 10 ambulances, 4 fire engines as well as Gardai from across the region rushed to the scene of this workplace accident shortly after 2pm.
5 men were initially taken to hospital but the Gardai have now confirmed that one of these men has died.
Deceased is from the local area
Another man remains in a critical condition and is being treated at the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar.
The other 3 men are in a serious condition and one is being treated in Mullingar while the other 2 men had to be taken to Tullamore.
The deceased is from the local Longford area.
The scene has been evacuated.
Longford Gardai have confirmed that the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has launched a full investigation into the incident.
