A man in his 40s has died after he was hit by a car in County Mayo last night.

It happened shortly before 11pm on the N60 at Manulla near Bella.

The man in his 40s was hit by a car and was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

The road remains closed, with the scene sealed off for a forensic examination and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

They are particularly interested in talking to road users who were in the area at the time of the incident and may have camera footage.
