A man has died after the car he was driving entered the water in West Cork in the early hours of this morning.

It happened on the R571 near Eyeries in the early hours of this morning.

The man in his 30s was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardaí are now appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

They are particularly interested in talking to anyone who was travelling the R571 near Eyeries area between 1am and 6am.

The road remains closed this afternoon ahead of a technical examination.

Local diversions are in place.
