A man in his 50s has died after a hit and run in Limerick city this afternoon.
The collision, between a pedestrian and a car, took place on the Ennis Road shortly before 2pm.
The car involved - a maroon-coloured Ford Focus with the number plate 141 C 3717 - failed to remain at the scene but has since been located.
The Ennis Road remains closed for an examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.
A man in his 30s has been arrested in relation to the incident and is currently detained at a Garda station in the Southern Region.
Investigations are ongoing and Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
