A man has died after a suspected assault in County Kerry overnight.

Gardaí found the man unresponsive with serious injuries outside a house in An Caisléan Mór, Castleisland at around 12.30am last night.

The man, aged in his 40s, was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Another man, also aged in his 40s, was arrested and is currently being held at a Garda station in Kerry.

The body remains at the scene which has been sealed off for a forensic examination.

The State Pathologist has been called in and a postmortem is due to take place later today.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone with any information to contact them.
