A man has died after getting in difficulty swimming in County Clare.

Emergency services were called to Fanore Beach yesterday evening after two swimmers were dragged out to sea.

The Irish Coast Guard responded and alerted Gardaí at around 9:30pm.

A man in his 40s was removed from the water and taken University Hospital Galway.

He was later pronounced dead.
