A man has died after his car went into the sea in Galway on Thursday.

It happened at The Quay area of Kinvara at around 8.00pm.

The man, aged in his late 70s, was the driver and sole occupant of the car.

He was taken to University Hospital Galway in a critical condition, but later passed away.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information, particularly any motorists who may have been in The Quay area Kinvara between 7:45pm to 8:15pm who may have dash cam footage, to come forward.
