Gardaí say the vehicle involved failed to remain at the scene.

This evening, gardaí confirmed that a man in his 50s was arrested in connection with the incident.

He's being held at Ballymun Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4, Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Officers also say a HGV articulated tractor unit has been recovered.

The scene of the crash was closed earlier while gardaí carried out a forensic investigation, but it has since reopened.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with any information to contact them.

They are particularly interested in talking to anyone who may have been in the Collins Avenue Junction area of the N1 between 12:15am and 12:30am this morning.
