A man in his 40s has died after getting into difficulty at a scuba diving event in Co Donegal. 

The incident happened at about 12.40pm on Saturday in the Teelin Bay area outside Killybegs. 

It is understood they were taking part in the North West Dive Rally organised by the Donegal Bay Sub Aqua club. 

Two men were recovered from the water. 

Local rescue services took part in the search operation, including the Killybegs Coast Guard and the Rescue 118 Helicopter. 

The man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Another man in his 60s was taken to University Hospital Galway where he is being treated.
