A man in his 40s has died following an assault in Limerick.
It happened in Garryowen in the early hours of Saturday morning.
A man, also aged in his 40s, was arrested at the scene.
Gardaí responded to reports of an incident at a house in Sarsfield Avenue at around 4.45am.
A man was found unresponsive outside the house, and he was pronounced dead a short time later despite efforts by ambulance personnel.
The body of the man remains at the scene which is currently preserved for a technical examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
The Coroner has been notified and the services of the Office of the State Pathologist have been requested.
Gardaí say a post mortem will be carried out in due course.
A Family Liaison Officer has also been appointed to the family of the dead man.
The arrested man is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at a Garda station in Limerick.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact them.
Any person who was in the vicinity of Sarsfield Avenue this morning between 4am and 5.15am, and who may have camera footage, including CCTV and dash cam footage, is asked to make this available.
