A man (31) has been killed after a single vehicle accident in Co Cavan.

The man's car hit a tree on the Ballinagh to Crossdoney road at around 10:15pm last night.

He was taken to Cavan General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

A post mortem is due to take place later today.

The road remains closed for a forensic collision examination and diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.
