A man in his 20s has died following a crash involving three cars in Barna, County Galway.

Gardaí and emergency servies were alerted to the collision on the R336 at around 11.25pm last night.

The driver of one of the cars, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was removed from the scene to the mortuary at University Hospital Galway, where a post-mortem examination is due to take place.

There were no other injuries reported.

The road between Barna and Furbo remains closed this morning and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
