A man has died in a crash in County Galway.

Gardaí said the crash involving a car and a van happened just after 1am this morning at Carrownurlar in Milltown.

The driver of the car, a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man in his 50s who was driving the van was taken to Castlebar General Hospital as a precautionary measure.

The road remains closed ahead of a forensic investigation by Gardaí.

Local diversions are in place.

Investigators are calling for any witnesses, in particular drivers who were in the area and may have dash-cam footage, to come forward.
