A man (28) has died after a car crash in Co. Tipperary in the early hours of this morning.

It happened at Rathronan in Clonmel at around 1.20 am when a car he was traveling in as a passenger hit a ditch. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver (20) was taken to South Tipperary Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The road is currently closed to facilitate a forensic examination and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, or anyone who may have been in the area between 1 am and 1.30 am to contact them.
