Gardaí in County Louth are investigating a fatal single vehicle accident in Dundalk last night.

The collision happened on the Inner Relief Road at Marshes Lower in Dundalk between 9.20-and- 9.30pm.

The sole occupant of the car-a 43 year-old man- was seriously injured. He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where he was pronounced dead later.

The road is closed to allow for a forensic collision examination of the scene. Local diversions are also in place

Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
