A man has died following a car crash on the outskirts of Cork city earlier today. 

The single-vehicle crash on the outbound lane on the Lower Glanmire Road (N8) in Tivoli at shortly before 7am today. 

The man, the sole occupant of the car, was declared dead. 

Forensic Collision Investigators have been requested and an examination of the scene will be carried out. 

The Lower Glanmire Road (N8) at Tivoli is currently closed in both directions and is expected to remain closed for a number of hours.  

Local diversions are in place. 

Gardaí in Cork are appealing for witnesses to come forward. 

They are particularly interested in those with dash-cam footage and were travelling on the Lower Glanmire Road (N8) between 6:30am and 7am.
