At 12.15 this morning, Gardaí were called out to a single vehicle car crash on the N71 in Clonakilty town. 

The only person in the car at the time of the crash was the driver - a man in his 50s. 

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been taken to Cork University Hospital for a post-mortem examination. 

No other injuries have been reported to Gardaí. 

The road remains closed ahead of an examination by the Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place. 

Any witnesses have been asked to get in touch with An Garda Síochána.
