A man has died in a fire at a flat in County Mayo.

A second man has been rushed to hospital after the fire at a residence in Ballina this morning.

The fire reportedly broke out in a flat above a shop in the centre of town.

Gardaí said the man was found dead in the house after fire services extinguished the fire and made the area safe.

His body remains at the scene.

The second man has been taken to University Hospital Mayo to be treated for his injuries.

The scene has been sealed off for a technical examination.
