A man in his late 50s has been killed in an industrial accident in Co. Longford.
The Bord na Móna worker was fatally injured at the Lough Ree power station in Lanesborough at about 12:50am this morning.
His body has been removed to Mullingar General Hospital.
Gardai and the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) are investigating the incident.
Internal inquiry
In a statement this morning Bord na Móna said "It is with deep regret that we confirm that earlier today a Bord na Móna employee died in an accident at Lough Ree Power Station".
The company says it has been working with the emergency services through the night.
It has also begun an internal inquiry into the circumstances of his death.
They went on to express their deepest sympathies to his family at this time.
