A man (25) has died after falling from a horse in Co. Offaly.

Colin Guinan fell from the animal in Lusmagh, Banagher and hit his head off the road at about 6.20pm yesterday evening.

He was brought by the Athlone-based air ambulance to Beaumont Hospital for treatment for serious head injuries, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Witnesses are assisting Gardaí with their inquiries.
