An elderly man has died in a housefire in County Wicklow.

Gardaí said the man in his 80s died after the fire broke out at a house in Roundwood at around 12:30am last night.

Gardaí and other emergency services personnel were called to the scene; however, the man was pronounced dead.

His remains have been removed to St. Columcille's Hospital in Dublin where a postmortem will take place in due course.

Investigations are ongoing.
