A man has died after allegedly assaulting three people in County Longford.

Gardaí said they are investigating an incident in the town of Lanesborough yesterday.

Investigators said a man in his 20s allegedly assaulted two men, aged in their 70s and 80s and a woman in her 50s.

All three were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A man in his 20s was taken to University Hospital Galway and has since passed away.

A post-mortem is due to be carried out this evening.
