A man has died in the sea off the County Cork coast.

A number of people had got into difficulty in the water at Inch Strand in Whitegate shortly before 3 o'clock this afternoon.

Gardaí and local emergency services responded and went to the scene.

A man in his 50s, was removed from the water and was later pronounced dead.

The local coroner has been notified and arrangements will now be made for a post-mortem examination.
