A man in his 20s has died in a workplace accident at Rosslare Harbour.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene at Rosslare Europort in County Wexford.

It happened at about 7:45am this morning.

In a statement, Irish Ferries confirmed that it had been "informed by the company that provides its crew services" that a "very serious incident involving a crew-member on the Isle of Inishmore ship occurred while freight cargo was being loaded" this morning.

The company said its thoughts are with the family of the man involved in the incident.

The Health and Safety Authority said it is aware of the death and has launched an investigation.

The coroner has been notified.
