A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of Cathal Sweeney (62) in Terenure on Saturday night.
Gary Walsh (31) of Ravensdale in Kimmage was remanded in custody at Cloverhill Prison to appear in court again next Friday.
Mr. Sweeney died in hospital on Saturday after being found with head injuries at a flat in Ashdale Gardens in Terenure.
It is believed he had been watching the Ireland vs. Wales rugby match on television at the time of the attack just before 6pm that evening.
Gary Walsh wore a grey overcoat and blue jeans at the brief hearing this morning at Dublin District Court.
Detective Sergeant Joe Molloy said the charge of murder was put to him at 12:05am this morning to which he said "No reply".
Judge Michael Walsh has remanded him in custody to appear in court again next Friday February 14th.
Any bail application will have to be made to the High Court because the charge is one of murder.
