A man is due to appear in court this morning after an alleged assault on Green Party leader Roderic O’Gorman.
It happened while Minister O’Gorman was out canvassing in the Blanchardstown area of west Dublin on Saturday.
Yesterday, Gardaí said they had arrested a man in his 30s “following the alleged assault of an elected representative canvassing in his local community”.
Deeply concerning to hear of the alleged assault on Roderic O’Gorman.
Ireland prides itself on its engagement between the people and its elected representatives.
There should be no violence, or fear of violence, when engaging in the democratic process.
