A man is due in court charged as part of the investigation into online threats against the Taoiseach and his family.
The man, aged in his 40s, was arrested yesterday morning and questioned at a Garda station in the northwest of the country.
It is understood the threats, posted to Instagram the weekend before last, made reference to a weapon and threatened violence against Simon Harris, his wife and his children.
The threats are believed to have remained online for at least two days after Gardaí asked Instagram owner Meta to remove it.
They have since been removed.
In a statement last week, Mr Harris said he would not be deterred from doing his job – and warned that there can be “no hiding place for anyone seeking to threaten, attack or harm people or to incite others to do so”.
The man who has now been charged by Gardaí is due before Galway District Court at 3pm this afternoon.
