A man is due in court charged over the death of another man in a luxury Laois hotel earlier this week.

A US man in his 60s was found dead at the five-star Ballyfin Demesne on Tuesday evening.

It is understood he suffered a sustained assault.

Gardaí were called to the hotel just before 8PM and a man in his 30s was arrested.

He was taken to a Garda Station in the east of the country for questioning.

This morning, Gardaí confirmed that he has now been charged.

He is due to appear before Portlaoise District Court later this morning.
