Man facing extradition to North over RUC murders further remanded in custody

A 61-year-old man has been further remanded in custody in connection with the murder of three RUC officers in a bombing in 1982.

Martin McCauley, from Esmondale in Naas, County Kildare denies the charges.

His application for bail will be heard next week.

Mr McCauley was arrested eight days ago in connection with the murder of three RUC officers on October 27th, 1982.

Officers Sean Quinn, Allan McCoy and Paul Hamilton were travelling in a car in Lurgan when a bomb was detonated remotely, killing all three.

Solicitors for Martin McCauley say he denies the charges and will contest the extradition proceedings at any further hearings.

Mr McCauley was today further remanded in custody until next Wednesday, 4th September, when his bail application will be heard.
